Becca Cosmetics has released Slimlights* in the shades of Champagne Pop, Topaz and Pearl. What's a Slimlight? Well, a slim makeup product that adds a precise amount of light aka highlighter to basically wherever you'd like to place it.


The Slimlights can be used as either a precise highlight or an eyeshadow base. For me personally, I prefer to use a regular Becca highlighter with a smaller brush or my fingers to achieve a specific highlight. This is just because I'm already totally in love with the regular Pressed formulas.

Because of this, the way that I like using Slimlights and the way that I'm going to review them in this post is for the purpose of an eyeshadow base.

I've used my fair share of cream eyeshadow bases and I'm always excited to try more. So far, I would say that the Becca Slimlights are the most luxurious. The packaging itself is quite weighted and feels special.

Something that I think is quite interesting about this product is that the first time I tried it and swatched it on my hand, I wasn't overly impressed. Don't get me wrong. The colours are beautiful, the formula is smooth but I just didn't think they were that special.

The magic really comes out when you use a Slimlight as a base and pop an eyeshadow (or highlighter) on top. I noticed that it really amplified whatever shadow I decided to use and even on my oily eyelids, I didn't have creasing until six hours in.

I also received compliments for my eyeshadow looks when wearing this product and I honestly think it's because usually when I apply shadows, they disappear. I find that the Slimlights really lock the eyeshadow in place and I don't have the same problems anymore.

All in all, my favourite shade is probably Pearl. Typically at night time when I go out I gravitate towards a silver, black smokey eye. Pearl combined with my favourite silver eyeshadow pops in every photo and I don't have to worry about anything moving around.

As I said in my split pans post which you can read here, I hope that Becca ends up releasing this product in the shade Opal. I'm already obsese with using Opal (Pressed) on my lids and I am crossing my fingers to have a creamy eyeshadow base to match and help amplify it.

Having oily skin is definitely no walk in the park. Even after using a 'matte' foundation I can look like a shiny disco ball hours later. One particular makeup 'struggle' that I go through is the creasing of eyeshadows because so many eye primers or bases just simply do not work for oily lids. 
Around September last year, I put together a post of my then ultimate eyeshadow bases for oily lids which you can read here. This post is a bit of a continuation or update if you will, with my now five holy grail eyelid primers and bases. 
Starting off with the newest of the bunch, My absolutely beloved Rimmel Magnif'eyes Eyeshadow and Kohl Liners*. I recently did an entire review and swatch post, which you can see here. In summary, this product is dual ended. One side is an eyeshadow whilst the other is an eyeliner. But in reality, both sides are incredibly smooth and can be used as an eyeshadow base. These can be worn alone or with eyeshadows on top. I can get around 5 hours without my shadows creasing. Out of all the products in this post, I'd say that these are the best for a really pigmented start to the eyeshadow look you're trying to create. 
The Body Shop Instablur Eye Primer*. It is a little bit on the pricier side at $23.95 AUD for a 10ml tube, but I think it's worth it. This isn't a miracle worker in terms of covering up redness or too many veins on the eyes for example, but it is a really great base for smoothing the eyelid for easy application. It also doesn't slide all over the place or get oily, which is a plus. The texture is also a little bit unique because it begins quite dry and then becomes smooth afterwards. Out of all of the primers in this post, I'd say it feels the most similar on the lids to an Urban Decay Primer Potion. 
Benefit Cosmetics Air Patrol* is still a product I don't see much talk about here online and it's quite sad, because it's a great product! I received it around October last year and have used it very often since. It's a thin, light foundation colour formula that dries instantly. When I first swatched it for my post here, I had to redo the swatch because it honestly dried so quickly before I could take a photo and smudge it out. This stuff, does not budge. Out of all of the primers, I'd say this is the best for longevity. 
Last up, two old favourites. The Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Sticks* and Maybelline Colour Tattoos. These two are more like creamy, pigmented eyeshadows which are great at not only increasing the impact of your eyeshadow, but also help with the longevity. Many types of coloured bases are problematic for my eyelids and create creasing, but not these two. They both go on the lids incredibly smooth and make a huge difference to my overall makeup look. One product that I have been consistently in love with for years is the Maybelline Color Tattoos. Every single colour and texture that I've tried has worked very well for me and many shades are holy grails of mine.
I categorised this post into swatch and review, but I don't think there will actually be too much reviewing going on because like I said, I love these.

By far the most impressive product that I have ever tried from Rimmel is their new Magnif'eyes Eyeshadow and Kohl Liner*. To say that I'm obsessed might even be an understatement. I can't stop using these products and after you read this post, don't blame me if you can't either!
A lot of dual ended products are gimmicky and I'll have to admit I was a little sceptical when I received these, but as soon as I tried them, I understood. One side of the product is a cream eyeshadow, whilst the other is an eyeliner. Having said that, both sides are amazingly smooth and pigmented, so you could use both sides as an eyeshadow in my opinion. 
As you can see, there's nothing too special about the packaging. It's mostly plastic but that doesn't offend me at all. There's also no smell to the formula so if you're scent sensitive, then you might also give these a tick of approval.
The way that I love to use this product is that I first apply the eyeshadow directly to my eyelid. Using my finger or a flat eyeshadow brush, I smudge it around trying to cover my entire eyelid. Because I am oily, I will set the cream shadow with a similar coloured eyeshadow and proceed doing my eye makeup as usually. Once all of my eyeshadow is done, I apply a thin line with eyeliner side close to my lash line and smudge it out to create more of a smokey effect, following up with my regular liquid eyeliner on top. 
I definitely see a large difference in the pigmentation and longevity of my eyeshadow when I use this product. With my super oily eyelids, I can get a good 5 hours without creasing. After then, it's just a slight crease. But if you have dry or normal skin, I doubt that your lids would crease at all.
For this post, as you can see I had to do some swatches. To be entirely honest with you, I didn't want to. I didn't want to waste any product, because I love these babies so much. As a quick comparison I would say that these are as smooth, if not smoother than my beloved Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Sticks. If you're curious to see how they compare, check out the LM Caviar Eye Stick post here. One thing I'll quickly say is that in my arm swatch, Black to Blacks came up slightly more blue. It's true appearance is more of a very, very close black, with some slight blue or silver sparkle. Therefore, it's true swatch is definitely closer to the shade shown on the swatch card.
If there is one little bit of advice I could give you with these, be careful when you put the caps on because if you rush it, you might accidentally nick a little bit of the product off.
Priced around $16.95 and very accessible (Priceline, Big W, Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Target), I really do recommend each of them. But, if I had to pick two favourites, I'd pick 001 Back to Blacks & 003 Queens of the Bronzed Age.

Another post today that goes out to all of my fellow oily eyelid readers! Most makeup is a struggle for us, but I find that in particular, eyeshadow bases are one of the largest. They crease, slide off or just look down right awful. Over the years I've found a few eyeshadow bases that work wonders on me, so of course I thought I would share them with you all!

Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeshadow Sticks in Copper, Amethyst & Moonlight
First up are the Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Sticks*. Out of today's bunch, these are probably my favourite. I won a collection of the small size caviar eye sticks and I think since I received these, I've barely used anything else. These glide onto the lids so effortlessly, are so pigmented, make my eyeshadows pop AND they don't crease. So many positives all in the one product. Next up are my previous holy grails, Maybelline Colour Tattoos. These are affordable, accessible, come in a range of colours and they are mighty fine for 'drugstore'. The longevity is pretty decent and I only notice slight creasing probably a 4-5 hours later. My ultimate favourite is Bad to The Bronze. It's a gorgeous shade that I sometimes use on its own all over the lid, with just a teeny bit of bronzer in my crease.
Lastly are the Covergirl Bombshell Shine Shadows*. These are probably the most pigmented of the bunch. They are a liquid consistency and a little goes a very, very long way. I've got these shine shadows in three colours and they're all gorgeous. Maybelline Colour Tattoo's have always been an eyeshadow staple for me. They're creamy, apply evenly, are super smooth, pigmented, blend well AND are really affordable. 
Here are the shades that I love and as you can see I reach for a couple of them quite a lot. 

Left to Right: Too Cool, Silver Strike*, Tough as Taupe, Bad to the Bronze, Pomegranate Punk 

I have heard that they can dry out; but I have had Bad to the Bronze and Too Cool for years and they are still completely fine!
