Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Becca Cosmetics' Opal is considered to be one of the best highlighters on the market. It is used and loved by celebrities, makeup artists, bloggers and of course, consumers. We basically all can't get enough, am I right?

What you may not know, is that there are actually three different formulas for Opal, as well as their other highlighters Pearl, Stone, Moonstone, Rose Gold and Topaz. Champagne Pop is also being available in all three formulas in the next day or two.

So, what are these formulas and what do I think is the best formula for their shade Opal? Well, we're all individuals here and for some of us (me included), I think all three are great. But, if you're looking to find out which individual formula is good for you, keep on reading.

There is absolutely no denying the beauty of Opal. I actually chose to wear Opal on my university graduation day. From photos and peoples kind compliments, I can definitely say that I made the right choice. Opal, no matter the formula, is a stunning, golden highlighter. It's pretty interesting to describe this shade because it is both pigmented, yet soft. Basically, it is a subtle gold colour, that really packs a punch. I'm sure that there are other soft, gold highlighters on the market, but none of them sing this loudly and create as great of a highlight.

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal* is probably the most typical for formulas for most of us. It is essentially a powder highlighter that you sweep onto the high parts of your face using a small tapered or fan brush, after applying your makeup. I'd recommend this highlighter to everyone who wants a precise, pigmented highlight, but especially those who are new to makeup or haven't tried any form of highlighting before.

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured (Creme) Opal* is a cream version of Opal. As with the Pressed version, you can use this on top of your makeup, to highlight the high parts of your face. This time, you'd probably use a small stippling brush or your fingers. Compared to the other two formulas, Poured is slightly more matte and less shiny. If you're after a more matte highlight or if you're a lover of pressed highlighters and want to try something new, I think you'd quite enjoy the Poured version. But, if you live in a super hot climate or have a makeup collection in the sun, I'd be a extra careful because this formula is fairly delicate.

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Opal* is as the name suggests, a liquid version of Opal. This formula is by far the most versatile of the three and if you're someone who loves an all over the face glow, this should definitely be your go to. You can mix it in with your foundation or you can place it on your face before foundation. By all means you can also apply this on top of your makeup in selected areas like the Pressed and Pour, but I think it's especially great for those who want a more subtle, all over glow.

My current favourite of the three is their Pressed version, but that's because I'm just a sucker for powder highlighters.
