Last Friday, my boyfriend and I started our long weekend escape to Warrnambool. From Melbourne, it's a nice 3 and a half hour drive if you take an in land route, or around 7 if you go by the Great Ocean Road.
The last time I was in Warrnambool, I was six years old and I really didn't remember much, so I was super excited to head back.
Here are four things that I think you need to do when you visit Warrnambool.
Oh and one quick thing I want to mention. Some of these suggestions are a 5-10 minute drive apart, and the others are only a 5-10 walk apart, so everything is quite accessible and easy!
Thunder Point Warrnambool
WALK UNDER THE BRIDGE AT STINGRAY BAY
When you see a bridge, your first thought is to walk across it. I for myself know that I haven't really taken the time to try and get underneath a bridge to see what it looks like. But before we got to Warrnambool I did some serious Googling and Instagram stalking and found how gorgeous this place looks during Sunset. Unfortunately when we went during sunset, the tide was too low, but it is still also incredibly gorgeous during the day too.
VISIT THUNDER POINT AT SUNSET
This is probably my favourite of the bunch. Thunder Point is gorgeous both during the day and sunset, but my favourite is definitely sunset and you can see why. The pictures honestly speak for themselves, so I'll just leave them rightttt here.
VISIT THE FLAGSTAFF HILL MARITIME VILLAGE
Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village is incredibly rich with history. It's the ultimate visit for learning everything about Warrnambool's past. You'll have the opportunity to go through a little shipwreck and maritime museum. You can also walk through the 1870's village, right into the shops. There's a little book store / library in the village and you can actually turn the pages of The Warrnambool Standard from 1896. By the way, there's also these cute ducks that roam around.
GO ON A PADDLE BOAT AT LAKE PERTOBE
I've always seen paddle boats in movies and cute tv shows, but I haven't gone on one myself. It was raining in the morning but we came back in the afternoon and bought ourselves a 15 minute 'ride' for $10 (steal right?). 15 minutes might not sound like much, but you get to see gorgeous Lake Pertobe from a different view. Going on a paddle boat is a heap of fun and you can take it at whatever pace you wish. They're open on the weekends and on school holidays.
